Priceville’s Bulldogs unveiled a new quarterback and re-introduced a veteran wide receiver and running back as they dominated Pope John Paul II of Huntsville 41-7 in a jamboree football game at home Thursday night.

Freshman Kaleb Barker, who quarterbacked the junior high Bulldogs last season, wasted no time proving he belonged on the varsity. He completed five of 11 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

Senior returning starter Nick Bell caught three of Barker’s passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. He also converted four of four extra point kicks.

Senior running back Forrest Clemons picked up where he left off last season by rushing for 114 yards on eight carries and scoring two touchdowns, all in the first half. Most of his runs were slashing, power-packed bursts up the middle.

“We did what we wanted to do but we made a lot of mistakes,” said Bulldogs head coach Dirk Strunk. “We have to work hard next week to correct them and get ready for West Morgan.

“We were fortunate to get some big plays from our skill players and build a halftime lead, and the execution of the offensive line had a lot to do with that,” Strunk added. “I also though our defense did a good job of shutting them out in the first half, and it was good that we were able to get some reps for our young players. We need that in order to building depth.”

Daniel Barnett came up with a big defensive play for the Bulldogs in the second half when he picked off a Pope John Paul pass at midfield and returned in 10 yards.
