Victims of domestic violence in Morgan County will be able to receive services through Crisis Services of North Alabama thanks to a state grant awarded last week.
Gov. Bob Riley announced a $339,354 grant to help victims of domestic violence. The funds will help support the Hope Place family violence shelter and the Helpline Rape Response Program.
Hope Place has provided safe short-term shelter for thousands of victims since 1983. The center also assists victims by providing a 24-hour crisis line, education and employment opportunities, advice on health and safety issues and support throughout legal proceedings.
In 2006, the organization responded to 4,710 calls to its crisis line, assisted 222 rape victims and sheltered 408 women and children.
