Jason Armstrong, a Hartselle native with 14 years of retail sales experience, has announced he will run for a place on the Hartselle City Council, subject to the next Municipal Election in August.

A 1993 graduate of Hartselle High School, Armstrong said he will file qualifying papers on July 2 for the position currently being filled by Don Hall, who is leaving the council to run for mayor.

“I’ve always been interested in local politics,” Armstrong said, “and I had the opportunity to get my feet on the ground in an election campaign while working for Sheriff Ana Franklin in 2010. After praying about it, talking it over with my dad and seeking the advice of some elected officials, I decided now is the time for me to offer myself as a candidate with the desire to help create a facelift in Hartselle.

“I believe my education and work experience and a strong desire to give back to the community quality me to serve on the city council as a representative of all the people,” he pointed out.

Armstrong attended Wallace State Community College where he earned an associate degree in business administration. Plus, he has work experience in retail sales at both Walmart and RadioShack in Hartselle. He is currently working as a security guard at the former CR Compressors (Copeland) plant.

If elected, Armstrong said he would work to eliminate wasteful spending, improve streets, get community storm shelters and bring jobs to Hartselle.

He also expressed concern about the loss of Hartselle Medical Center and said he is committed to help restore needed medical services to the community.
