Hartselle City School officials were informed by U.S. News and World Report that Hartselle High School has been ranked as the 18th best high school in Alabama and has received the Silver Medal of Distinction.

HHS was awarded a national rank of 1,686 based on its test scores, student-teacher ratio, proficiency in English and math and its college readiness index. According to Hartselle City Schools, this distinction ranks HHS in the top 4 percent of all Alabama high schools and the top 7.5 percent of the schools that were compared in the nation.

Data from the 22,000 best high schools in the U.S. was analyzed by U.S. News and World Report.  The magazine started with math and reading scores on state proficiency and then factored in the percentage of disadvantaged students. The final criteria used were AP scores. All three were used in calculating the college readiness index that determined the rankings.

U.S. News determined that 98 percent of students were proficient in both English and math. In math alone, 59 percent of the school’s students exceeded academic content standards.

The school’s college readiness index was 20.3 based on the students’ Advanced Placement exam scores.

Thirty-one percent of HHS students participate in AP exams with a 54 percent passing rate. The average number of exams per participant is 2.5 with an exam pass rate of 41 percent.
