Ellis LaVelle Darby Jr.

Funeral for Ellis LaVelle Darby Jr., 68, of Greenville, S.C. was Thursday, May 31, at 4 p.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cameron Treece officiating and Mackey Mortuary directing.
Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Darby died Tuesday, May 29, 2007. He was born in Hartselle to the late Ellis LaVelle Darby and Wilda Travis Darby. He was a retired homebuilder and developer, a member of the Poinsett Club and served on the board and was one of the founders of GBS Lumber Company. He attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church, was an avid fisherman and gardener and had the greatest pleasure entertaining his grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Coleman Darby of Greenville; two daughters, Joan Darby Leaphart and husband Kirk and Coleman Darby Parham and husband Corey, all of Greenville; a sister, Wilda Darby McMeans of Decatur; five grandchildren, Philip, Ryan and Rachel Leaphart and Wil and Darby Parham; his loving mother-in-law, Jane Hunter Coleman; and a niece, Bailey McMeans.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 701 Cleveland St., Greenville, S.C. 29601; the YMCA Endowment Board, 601 East McBee Ave, Suite 212, Greenville S.C., 29601; or to the charity of one’s choice.
