He got the better end of the deal

There are two new toys at my house.
Let’s start with my toy. I knew I was going to purchase it about two weeks ago when the repairman at the house to fix my washing machine said these dreaded words: “Out of warranty? I wouldn’t even mess with it then.”
I knew then I was going to have to purchase a new machine, even though this fancy one Greg had purchased only four years ago still looked brand new. It turns out these washing machines – complete with every kind of bell and whistle you could imagine – were no longer being made because they were such notorious clunkers. I was left with a very fancy, very high-tech, very worthless piece of junk.
Being a good wife, I did not point out to Greg that my old washing machine – the one with no bells, whistles or special cycles – that I purchased shortly after I graduated college in 1992 still worked just fine. Instead, we went to the department store, picked out a new washing machine and then waited for it to be delivered.
Once it was safely in the laundry room, I read the manual and learned how to make all my new bells and whistles work. My new toy was working well, leaving me to catch up on a week’s worth of dirty clothes.
Now for Greg’s toy.
I knew he was going to purchase it when I heard him and his son, Derek, discussing the advantages of a PlayStation vs. a Nintendo. I thought they were discussing ideas for Derek’s upcoming birthday, but I soon figured out it was Greg who was looking to buy.
Last Sunday, we were walking through the store (ironically the same one where we purchased what has become known as “my washing machine.”) Sitting high on a shelf was a whole stack of Playstation Threes. These were the same game consoles everyone was going crazy about just before Christmas. Now that the furor has died down, it seems there are lots of these available and it appeared one of them was going to come home with us.
He debated, considered the games available and then hauled the machine and some games up to the cashier. Quicker than I had purchased the washing machine, Greg became the owner of a new Playstation Three. He took it home, hooked it up and read the manual. Suddenly, sounds akin to a nuclear battle filled the air.
Even, Sure.
