Tigers finish 7th of 11 teams at Huntsville Invitational

HUNTSVILLE — In its first wrestling competition of the year, Hartselle took a seventh-place finish at the Huntsville Invitational Saturday. The Tigers finished with 85 team points, between sixth-place Sparkman (110.5) and eighth-place Buckhorn and Fort Payne (42).
Defending Class 5A state champion Scottsboro won the team title with 342.5 points.
Hartselle did not have an individual champion at the meet, although two Tiger wrestlers placed second in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Kyle Davis finished second in the 125-pound class, falling by pin to Scottsboro’s Taylor Machen.
In the 160-pound division, Hartselle’s Dallas Kalber dropped the championship match against Scottsboro’s Kyle Cuthbertson.
Jake Watkins took fourth place in the 171-pound class, falling to Dylan Hilyer of Fort Payne in the consolation match.
Junior varsity results:
Several members of the junior varsity team placed at two tournaments held recently at Huntsville High.
Friday: B-Team Tournament: 152-pound Kenneth Sammons, first place; 160-pound Barrett Eubanks, first place; 152-pound David Filiatrault, second place; heavyweight Steven Hames, fourth place.
Saturday: Junior High Tournament: heavyweight Steven Hames and Garrett Baldwin, tied for first place; 152-pound David Filiatrault, second place; 135-pound Luke Chaffee, third place.
