Simmons joins All-Star team
Danville's Lauren Simmons was recently named to the North All-Star volleyball team for the 10th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville.
Simmons, who will be a senior at Danville in fall of 2006, was a key part of a Lady Hawks team that finished as the state runner-up in the Class 3A Elite Eight tournament in Pelham in 2005.
She will be a part of a 12-member team that will compete against the South All-Stars starting at 2 p.m. July 13 in a best-of-five series at UAH.
Andrews earns baseball honor
Former Hartselle standout Zach Andrews was recently named to the 2006 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Central Region team. Andrews, a sophomore at the University of Montevallo, set a new team record this season with 11 saves. He is currently 5-0 this season and has a 2.20 ERA.
Andrews helped Montevallo win the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Baseball Tournament in Abilene, Tex. May 21, pitching the final two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win as Montevallo defeated Incarnate Word 9-8.
Golf outing planned
East Highland Baptist Church youth's 7th Annual Mission Trip Golf Tournament will be June 10 at Quail Creek Golf Course. The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $50 per person and that will include lunch, a golf cart and the chance at prizes including a possible $15,000 for a hole-in-one.

Benefit set for needy family
The Tennessee River Coon Hunters' Association will hold a benefit at club headquarters in Lacey's Spring June 10 for Darrell and Angela Parsons. Darrell Parsons has had five heart attacks in the past two months and Angela Parsons was diagnosed with cancer in October. All proceeds from the benefit will go directly to the Parsons. The benefit will begin at 10 a.m. with a meat shoot. Directions to the headquarters are: start at River Bridge and take U.S. 231 South, then turn right on Fields Road at the caution light. The club is one mile down on the right. For more information, call Tina Dalton at 883-1289.
MLS clinic set for June
This camp will be taught by MLS players to boys and girls ages 9-18. The camp is June 12-16 from 4-7 p.m. at Walker Field. Admission is $105. Contact Darrell Harris at 773-0845 for more information.
Soccer clinic planned for June
The AYSO clinic will be June 12-16 for ages 4-and-older. It will begin at 9 a.m. Monday and 8 a.m. the remainder of the week. The clinic will be held at Walker Field and the fee of $27 includes a T-shirt and daily refreshments. Each participant is asked to wear shin guards and bring a soccer ball, if possible. Please pay and register at Sparkman Civic Center by June 9. For more information call 773-0845.
