Volunteers representing John F. Thompson American Legion Post 52 and its Auxiliary were busy this morning wrapping age-appropriate toys for their annual Kids Day program.

The fun-filled event will be staged in the main auditorium at Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.

Santa is expected to hand out about 250 gifts to first through fifth grade students from Eva, Sparkman and Danville-Neel Elementary schools. Each will also received a bag of fruit and candy.

Falkville Elementary and the elementary schools in Hartselle opted not to participate this year, according to Jerry Cleek, project chairman. “We delivered teddy bears to the kids at Hartselle Head Start School earlier today and will make baskets from any leftover fruit and candy we have left and give them to veterans who are residents of Falkville Healthcare and Summerford Nursing Home.
