June 23, 1955 -Mary Jane Dobbs, one-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Dobbs, Hartselle 1, succumbed to polio yesterday at the Block clinic, just four days after she was stricken with the dread disease.
June 23, 1955 -Two Hartselle stores were broken into last night. Fifty dollars was pilfered from the cash register of Charley Quinn's Hartselle Grocery Company. J. E. Bartlett's Food Mart was also entered but the proprietor reports nothing missing. Investigations to find the culprits are being led by Deputy Sheriff Richard Hyche and Hartselle Police Chief M. L. Looney.
June 24, 1955 -Scott Stone, a recent graduate of William and Mary College, left for Switzerland today to spend two months as a member of the Experiment in International Living.
June 24, 1955 -Mr. and Mrs. Doc Jones and daughter, Barbara, were in Nashville recently to see the sights and attend the Grand Ole Opry.
June 25, 1955 -Hartselle beauty Bette Kay Poole is one of 12 entrants in this year's Morgan County Maid of Cotton contest. The judging will start late Monday afternoon at the Lyon's Hotel in Decatur. Winners in the pageant will be announced later that day on WMSL-TV.
June 26, 1955 -Local youth currently participating in Boys' State are Ike Groover, Robert Parker and Joe Garner.
June 27, 1955 -Harriet Wright and Benard Chasteen were married in a candlelit ceremony tonight at the Salem Methodist Church. The bride's father, the Rev. Harold Wright, led the couple in the recitation of their wedding vows.
June 27, 1955 -Cadet Wayne Summerford began ROTC camp at Camp Gordon, Georgia, today. Wayne is a student at API and the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Summerford.
June 28, 1955 -The Red Cross bloodmobile was in Hartselle today. Due to leadership provided by the city's three civic clubs, Rotary, Kiwanis, and Civitan, 106 pints were donated. Mrs. H. M. Betterton directed an efficient corps of volunteers at the blood donation center.
June 29, 1955 -Currently showing at Hartselle's Ranch Drive-in Theatre is the scandalous farce, "French Follies." Movie times are 7:50 and 9:30.
