Humphries gets AU scholarship

Chris Humphries celebrates winning the 2010 BCS National Championship in Glendale, Ariz., in January. The walk-on has now received an Auburn football scholarship.

Somerville’s Chris Humphries has been awarded a football scholarship by Auburn University, according to Auburn coach Gene Chizik.

Chizik recognized walk-on players who were awarded with scholarships at a team meeting Monday night. In addition to Humphries were Blake Burgess, Chris Brooks, Ikeem Means, Davis Hooper, Aubrey Phillips, Ashton Richardson and Nathan Taylor.

“We had a really great team meeting last night and gave out some scholarships to some walk-ons that absolutely, 100 percent deserve it,” Chizik said. “We were able to give a great reward to guys that deserve it.”

Humphries appeared in 20 games during his Auburn career, recovered a fumble in 2010 and forced a fumble in the 2009 Ole Miss game.
