A look back

By Staff
Researched by Dr. Bill Stewart
With the death of Bob Hargett on December 30 Hartselle lost one of its most talented and congenial citizens. The attendance at his funeral was overflowing and his untimely passing has evoked a large number of reminiscences from friends of long standing.
1939 -January 29, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hargett have a new little boy at home of whom they are very proud. Baby Bobby Dean Hargett will be a month old on Tuesday.
1976 -January 30, The Wilson Corder family has thoroughly enjoyed the small Lowery organ they bought a few years ago from Hargett's Music Shop. They originally made a firm decision to buy the instrument after hearing Bob Hargett play it so enthusiastically. This year they will trade their first purchase in for a big Lowery console organ.
1949 -January 31, Although only ten, Bobby Dean Hargett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hargett, is already demonstrating a remarkable musical talent, especially at the piano.
2000 -February 1, Bob Hargett's Music Center is one of a very few sources in this area where the fine John Pearse guitars may be purchased.
2003 -February 2, Despite countless renditions, Bob Hargett is still in demand to play Floyd Cramer's classic "Last Date" for gatherings large and small in this area.
1959 -February 3, Figures recently tabulated show that 1958 was another very successful one for Vernon Hargett, a member of the highly effective sales force of Stewart Brothers Motor Company on North Sparkman Street.
1972 -February 4, Michael Ward enjoys going to Bob Hargett's music store in the shopping center. It is about the only store in town that stocks records. Michael is an avid collector of records-albums and singles.
Many times while customers are in the store Bob will start playing one of the organs and this captivates the shoppers who are fortunate enough to be around at that time. Bob is an extremely talented musician who does not need to look at music or even the keys to produce the most beautiful sounds.
(The writer is very appreciative for the help of Mr. Michael Ward, Mr. Wilson Corder, and Mrs. Reita W. King in the preparation of this tribute.)
