Lady Hawks and Lady Bulldogs clinch soccer playoff berths

The Priceville Lady Bulldogs and the Danville Lady Hawks punched their tickets to next week’s AHSAA state playoffs. Priceville defeated St. John Paul II to secure the second spot in the area, while Danville won their area with a win over Susan Moore.

Danville 3, Susan Moore 2
The Lady Hawks clinched their fourth consecutive trip to the state playoffs with a 3-2 win over Susan Moore. Layla Sherrill, Josie Bailey and Brylee Terry each scored a goal for Danville. Wendy Reyes had 12 saves in goal.

Sherrill’s goal was her 71st of the season, which would put her in seventh place all-time in single-season goals in AHSAA history.

Danville 7, Geraldine 3
Sherrill scored a season-high seven goals to lead the Lady Hawks to a 7-3 win over Geraldine. Terry had two assists, while Bailey, Aleyah Brooks, and Mia Brannon each had an assist. Reyes made 11 saves in goal.

Danville 8, Pennington 0
Sherrill had four goals and two assists to help lead Danville to an 8-0 area win over Pennington. Terry Brannon each added a goal and an assist, while Bailey and Maddie Sherrill each had a goal. Graysi Vest, Xochilt Beltran and Brooks each added an assist. Reyes had nine saves in goal.

Priceville 2, St. John Paul II 1
The Lady Bulldogs needed two overtime and two rounds to secure their spot in the playoffs with a 2-1 win over St. John Paul II. They won 5-4 in penalty kicks.

Anna Katherine Hopkins scored Priceville’s lone goal in regulation. Mae Vick, Kenzie Bowling, Aubrey Owens, Madelyn Kennedy and Amidy Wilder scored on penalty kicks. Goalie Tori Staats had 16 regulation, and overtime saves and two penalty kick saves.

Priceville 2, Madison Co. 1
Hopkins scored two goals to lead Priceville to a 2-1 area win over Madison Co. Goalie Staats had an assist and 15 saves.
