Brewer punches ticket to 5A volleyball state tournament

Four country teams played in the AHSSA North Super Regional in Huntsville last week. All the teams won their first-round matches with only Brewer advancing to the state tournament by winning in the second round.

Brewer

The Lady Patriots punched their ticket to the state tournament in Birmingham with a 3-1 win over Boaz and then a 3-0 win over Moody on the opening day of the 5A North Super Regional.

Brewer lost a fiercely contested semifinal match with Alexandria as the Lady Cubs won 3-2 to advance to the finals. The Lady Patriots finished the day with a 3-0 loss to Arab in the consolation match.

Brewer will head to Birmingham as the North’s fourth seed and face the South’s top-seed Montgomery Academy.

Priceville

The Lady Bulldogs were looking for a return trip to the state tournament. Unfortunately, Priceville fell short in their 3-2 loss to Cherokee County. The Bulldogs led 2-1 after three sets but saw Cherokee County win the final two games to end the Lady Bulldogs season.

Priceville advanced to the second round by defeating Hamilton 3-1 to open the tournament.

Danville

The Lady Hawks opened the 3A North Super Regional with a 3-1 win over Piedmont. However, their season ended with a 3-1 loss to Geraldine, who finished second in the tournament.

In the Lady Hawks’ final match, senior Trinity Coots crossed the 4,000 assist mark, finishing with 4,004.

Falkville

Falkville opened the 2A North Super Regional with a 3-1 victory over Fyffe. They met 2A’s top team in Pleasant Valley in the second round, with the Lady Raiders ending the Lady Blue Devils’ season with a 3-0 win.
