Fall kickoff: A look at the Falkville Blue Devils

Fall camp opened last week for the Falkville Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils enter year three under Coach Seth Ward, who is 11-11 at Falkville. The Blue Devils made the playoffs last season after finishing second in 2A Region 8.

They open the season Aug. 25 at home against Vinemont.

Until then, take a look at this year’s Blue Devils below and check back for a story, roster and pictures in the 2023 Morgan County Football magazine.

2022 Record: 7-5, lost in the second round of the 2A state playoffs at Aliceville

Key Returners: Landon Powers, Kole Fitzgerald, Denver Comstock, Jackson Edmonson, Malachi Collett, Trey Hemming, Bryant Owens, Dawson Fowler, Levi Lynn

Key Losses: Caden Burnett, Isaiah Warnick, Austin Melson, Lawson Tew, Hunter Franklin, David Lockhart, Lorenzo Ochoa, Cody White

Preview: The Blue Devils reload their offense around junior quarterback Landon Powers, who replaces all-state selection Caden Burnett. Finding a replacement for Isaiah Warnick will be more difficult as he finished with over 1,000 yards receiving and had 11 interceptions on defense. The Blue Devils return a talented group of running backs but will be young at the receiver spot. The defense will be led by experienced linebackers Jackson Edmonson and Malachi Collett. The defensive line will be new as starters but have plenty of playing experience.

Coach Speak: I am excited about the upcoming season and seeing how we grow into the season. We have a lot of players who have experience in game situations but need to learn on the fly when it comes to starting.” – Coach Seth Ward
