Class of ‘83 holds 40-year reunion

Special to the Enquirer

The Hartselle High School Class of 1983 gathered June 10 for their 40-year reunion. On Friday night classmates toured the old Hartselle High School and Pettey Gym. Walking the halls, they recalled memories of old classes, past teachers, championship games and long forgotten locker combinations. A pizza supper at Hartselle’s Pizza Ed followed where the classmates socialized and caught up with peers, some of whom had not been seen in the past 40 years.

Saturday evening marked the big get-together at Sparkman Park where more than 60 members of the Class of 1983 and their plus ones enjoyed sandwiches from Homemade by Lala, met up with old friends from years ago and listened to 80s music. Proudly winning the ‘80’s arcade door prizes were Shirley Sharpley Bonney and Valerie Swinford Clark.

Numerous photos were taken in front of the ‘80’s balloon arch while the class reminisced about the ‘best decade ever.’ Party favors included ‘80’s wrist slappers, a complimentary ‘Certificate of Attendance,’ a copy of the May 24, 1983 Hartselle High School graduation program complete with graduate list, and a ‘Remember 1983’ information sheet.

Other classmates who donated and helped organize the event but were unable to attend included Tesa Sides Morgan, Susan Hicks Eddy and Suzanne Baucom.
