Brewer and Priceville softball win area championships

The Brewer and Priceville teams join Hartselle in winning area tournament championships without a loss in tournament play. Brewer and Priceville convincingly won their championship games as the Lady Patriots defeated East Limestone 16-1, and Priceville took down West Morgan 13-5. As a result, both teams advance to regional play in Florence.

Class 4A, Area 13

Championship: Priceville 13, West Morgan 5

Priceville rolled to a 13-5 win over West Morgan in the area championship game. Allie Denson led the way with five hits, including three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Maddie Black added two hits and four RBI, while Wrozlie Barnett had a home run and two RBI. Elizabeth Murphy pitched five innings to earn the win.

Kylei Russell had three hits, including a double and an RBI for West Morgan, while Jonie Weems had two singles.

Priceville 3, West Morgan 2

Priceville and West Morgan found themselves locked in a pitcher’s battle in the winner’s bracket final. Priceville’s Elizabeth Murphy and West Morgan’s Chastity Rikard went toe-to-toe for seven innings before an error brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Katee King had two hits to lead Priceville, while Denson, Kirsten Segars and Gracin Prater each scored a run.

Priceville 12, Good Hope 2

Good Hope took an early 1-0 lead, but it was all Priceville from the second inning on. The Lady Bulldogs scored two in the second, and then six in the fourth to bust open the game and cruised to a 12-2 victory.

Maddie Black had three hits to lead Priceville on offense, and she pitched six innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on four hits. Bentley Black and Segars each had two hits, including a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Class 5A, Area 15

Championship: Brewer 16, East Limestone 1

The Lady Patriots cruised to a 16-1 victory to win the area championship. The offense hit six doubles while Gracie Lawrence picked up the win in the circle. She allowed one run on two hits in four innings of work.

Cheyenne Lucas led Brewer with two doubles and two runs scored. Ava Walls had two hits and three RBI, while Marlee Jones had two hits and two RBI. Breia Rusk had three RBI and two runs scored.

Brewer 10, Arab 0

Brewer run ruled Arab 10-0 in the winner’s bracket final to advance to the championship game. The Lady Patriots, who led 5-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, scored five runs to end the game.

Bronwyn Borden threw a six-inning no-hitter, striking out 15 of the 19 batters she faced.

Lawrence had two hits and three RBI, while Rusk and Keylyn Stapler each added two hits and two RBI. Abby Summerford and Jones each had two hits and an RBI.

Class 3A, Area 15

Danville dropped a 1-0 decision to Madison Academy in the 3A Area 15 championship game. They made it to the finals by coming out of the loser’s bracket with wins over Brindlee Mountain (15-0) and Elkmont. They lost their opening game 5-3 to Elkmont, which dropped them into the loser’s bracket.
