Hartselle dominates Decatur in doubleheader sweep

The Hartselle Tigers softball team dominated Decatur in their area doubleheader matchup this past Thursday. The Tigers outscored the Lady Red Raiders 36-0 in their two games. Hartselle improves to 17-7 and 3-0 in area play.

Game one: Hartselle 20, Decatur 0

Hartselle sent 23 batters to the plate in the first inning of game one and scored 18 runs. The Tigers hit three home runs in the 20-0 win.

Katie Norgard homered, had three RBI and scored two runs to lead Hartselle. Chloe Gray had two hits, including a home run, with two RBI and scored two runs, while Brooklyn Stiles added a solo home run and scored two. Kaelyn Jones, Brityan Godfrey and Sofia Hutson each had two hits and two RBI.

Sarah Bowling and Hutson combined for a perfect game, striking out six and facing only nine batters. Bowling earned the win after pitching the first two innings.

Game two: Hartselle 16, Decatur 0

The Tigers rested most of their starters in game two but didn’t skip a beat in their 16-0 win over Decatur.

Aly Putnam had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs to lead Hartselle. Grace McClendon had three hits and an RBI. Morgan Osborn had two hits, including a double, and two RBI in her first career start.

Hutson got the start and earned the win with a perfect first inning. Bailey Lawrence pitched the final two innings in relief and struck out four.

Hewitt-Trussville 3, Hartselle 2

The Tigers fell at home to Hewitt-Trussville 3-2 to start the week. The loss was the Tigers’ fifth by one run. All of Hartselle’s losses have come to teams ranked in the 7A Top 10.

Katie Norgard hit a solo homer, while Kaelyn Jones had a triple and scored a run. Blayne Godfrey had an RBI.

Godfrey took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in seven innings. She struck out 14.
