Hartselle Enquirer names all-area team

Eight members of the 6A state champion Hartselle Tigers headline the 2022 Enquirer all-area team. Leading the way for the Tigers are Player of the Year Elliott Bray and Coach of the Year William Booth.

Player of the Year: Elliott Bray was 10-0 with a 0.96 ERA off of 11 earned runs. He struck out 117 batters in 80 innings. When not on the mound, he played right field and hit .421 with 29 RBIs. Bray has signed with Auburn University. He was named the ASWA 6A Player of the Year and was named to AL.com’s Super 20 team.

Coach of the Year: Coaching legend, Hartselle’s William Booth, who is the state’s all-time leader in wins, picked up his ninth championship in May. His career record is 1,144-497.

 All-area team

 P: William Turner, Hartselle was 12-1 with two saves with a 1.43 ERA. He struck out 110 batters in 73 1/3 innings. He was named the MVP of the 6A state championship series. He has signed with Auburn. He was named to the ASWA 6A all-state first team.

P: Caleb Pittman, Hartselle was 5-2 with a 3.53 ERA. He struck out 71 in 39 1/3 innings. He has signed with Auburn.

P: Colton Hooper, Falkville struck out 72 in 48 innings with a 3.19 ERA. When not on the mound, he played catcher and hit .444.

P: Joseph Garrison, Priceville allowed just three earned runs, while finishing with a 5-0 record. He struck out 34 batters in 23 innings of work.

DH: Brodie Morrow, Hartselle hit .326 with four home runs, 11 doubles, 30 runs scored and 36 RBIs. He also was hit by a pitch 11 times. He was named to the ASWA 6A all-state first team.

C: Cam Palahach, Hartselle hit .324 with 10 doubles, eight sacrifice flies and 19 RBIs.

C: Gage Taylor, Danville batted .403 with 13 extra-base hits while going 21 for 21 on stolen base attempts. He was a 3A all-state honorable mention selection.

IF: Jo Williamson, Hartselle hit .417 with 58 hits, 19 doubles, 36 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He was named to the ASWA 6A all-state first team.

IF: Cade Miles, Hartselle hit .324 with 11 extra-base hits, 30 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

IF: Justin Brooks, Brewer hit .348 with 24 RBIs.

IF: Jackson Prickett, Priceville hit .370 with 12 doubles, 27 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 26 games.

OF: Coleman Mizell, Hartselle hit .504 average with 69 hits, 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 56 RBIs. He was 16 of 18 on stolen bases. He was named to the ASWA 6A all-state first team and 6A Hitter of the Year.

OF: Peyton Steele, Hartselle hit .333 with 48 hits, 10 home runs, 48 runs scored and 43 RBIs. He was named to the ASWA 6A all-state first team.

OF: Caden Burnett, Falkville hit .555 with 50 hits, 22 extra-base hits and 35 runs scored. He was named to the ASWA 2A all-state second team.

OF: Dylan McCleskey, Danville had a .417 batting average and a .507 on-base percentage.
