God’s word has authority in our lives

By Todd Barrier

This week in our series on Fundamentals of Christianity, we will recognize the authority of scripture.

So far, we have looked at belief in the deity of Christ and belief in the inspiration of the Bible. We can see how these things build upon one another. Without belief in the inspiration of the Bible, there is no believing in the deity of Christ. If you don’t have either of these things, you will never recognize the authority of scripture.

It takes true belief in God and His Word to fundamentally base your life around those words. That is what it takes to live the Christian life – live by the words in the Bible!

In the Bible we find the command to follow His Word in many places.

In 2 John 9 we are told if we aren’t abiding in the doctrine of Christ – which comes from His Word – we don’t have God.

We are also told the Word of God has everything in it we need to live the life God wants us to, 2 Peter 1:3.

There is no doubt we must recognize that God’s Word has authority in our lives as a fundamental aspect of our walk with Him.

Next week we will look at membership in His church.

Do you recognize the authority of scripture in your life?
