Three Hartselle contenders are in the running for Carnegie Carnival royalty this year.

Carnegie Carnival is “north Alabama’s premier Mardi Gras style celebration,” according to the Carnegie Visual Arts Center in Decatur, which benefits from the fundraising event.

Brodie Morrow and Maggie Guyse, both students at Hartselle High School, are among those seeking the title of prince and princess, respectively, while Rachel Howard of Hartselle is competing for Carnival Queen.

Each vote for one’s favorite candidate requires a $5 donation to Carnegie Visual Arts Center. With every $20 of voting, the candidate will receive one free vote.

PayPal is used for online voting, but votes can also be cast by contacting the Carnegie directly at 256-341-0562.

The candidates will hold events through Feb. 25 to raise money for the Carnegie Visual Arts Center, CASA of North Alabama and Track My Paws. Voting closes Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.

Carnegie Carnival will culminate Feb. 26, the Saturday before Mardi Gras, with a day of family-friendly activities, music, art and parades.

Local candidates include John Allison and Josh McCurry for king; Ginger Vandiver, Lisa Jones and Rachel Howard for queen; Brodie Morrow of Hartselle High, Cade Alexander of West Morgan, Joey Lubisco of Priceville High, Owen Poovey of Decatur High and Saxon Sample of Decatur Heritage for prince; and Addie Lu Nails of Decatur High, Addison Kyker of Falkville High, Cailey Barbee of West Morgan, Caroline Thompson of Decatur Heritage, Maggie Guyse of Hartselle High, Marley Froscello of Austin High and Reese Banks of Priceville High for princess.
