Brewer seniors Jordan and Taylor Bowling signed letters of intent to play basketball for Faulkner State Community College near Mobile.

The twin brothers, who stand 6-5 and 6-4 respectively, signed their scholarships in the presence of their parents, teammates and coaches in the school gym on Thursday.

“We’re excited about having both of them come play for us,” said FSCC assistant basketball coach Len Lanier. “Their height, athletic ability and strong character traits will be an asset to our program.”

Lanier said FSCC has three players returning as sophomores and will sign 12 freshmen. The team had a 17-12 record in 2011 but won 14 of 16 games in one stretch.

“We didn’t expect to go together,” said Jordan. “It just happened.”

“But it’s a positive thing,” added Taylor.

Both agreed that being 30 minutes from the beach was one thing that attracted them to Faulkner State.

Jordan has played on Brewer’s varsity team since he was a o sophomore and started as a junior and senior. As a senior, he scored 18.6 points per game, pulled down 7.4 rebounds and had three blocked shots.

“He has meant everything to our team,” said Brewer head coach Sam Brown. He has the ability to score outside as well as inside and will be able to contribute right away as a college player. He is also just a good all-round person who has had the respect and support of everyone here.”

Taylor joined the varsity as a junior and excelled as a post player even though he is an inch shorter than his brother. His strong suit was his defense, rebounding and scoring in the low post. As a senior he scored 12.4 points, grabbed 8.2 rebounds and had three blocked shots per game.

“He’s a strong defensive player with a competitive spirit,” said Brown.

He got the job done for us in the low post even though he was competing against taller players at times.”

“We’re happy for the boys and feel blessed as a family,” said parents Guy and Marian Bowling.
