The Special Needs Accessible Playground of Morgan County moved a step closer to completion on Saturday with the construction of a roof on a 14 by 40 ft. pavilion.
The facility is located in Hartselle’s Sparkman Park between SNAP’s swings area and splash pad and is a part of the project’s third and final construction phase. When complete, it will provide handicap accessible restrooms, water fountain and picnic tables.
“There are no shade trees in close proximity to the playground.” said Bob Francis. SNAP coordinator. “The pavilion will take care of that. It will be a nice, shaded area for parents to sit in and watch their children at play and a good place for children to go when they’re tired and need a break.”
Francis pointed out that the pavilion represents the beginning of construction on SNAP’s “Ramp ‘n Play main playground—the final construction phase. It is fully funded at an estimated cost of $41,468.
An entryway will be built later this year at an estimated cost of $58,111. It will contain a  bronze dedication plaque naming the facility the John Mark Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground. Architectural features will include a clock tower and memorial walls.  The project is currently one-half funded.
The main playground is targeted for construction in 2012 at an estimated cost of $263,515.
