City council to hold interviews for police chief Dec. 10

Two Hartselle policemen will interview for the position of police chief Monday night at 6 p.m. The Hartselle City Council will hold the interviews that are open to the public at city hall.

According to Mayor Randy Garrison, only two applicants from within the city will be interviewed: Lt. Justin Barley and Capt. Tom Sparks.

Both candidates have been with the Hartselle Police Department since the 90s.

Garrison said Police Chief Ron Puckett, who was elected as the incoming Morgan County Sheriff, will leave a void in the department, but he believes either candidate would be a good choice. “Whoever is selected as police chief will have big shoes to fill, but I think either one of these gentlemen could continue the long, proud tradition that Hartselle Police Department has,” Garrison said.

The city council will discuss the appointment of the new chief at their regular city council meeting work session the following night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
