Danville takes on Lauderdale County

Danville coach Mike Johnson is expecting to see a mirror image of his team when they take on Lauderdale County Friday afternoon in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

“They’re pretty much the same kind of team that we are,” Johnson said. “They do a lot of the same things we do. They seem to have the same mentality as our guys. It should be an interesting matchup.”

The Hawks won the area championship, giving them home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. The games are set for 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at noon if necessary.

Johnson said his team is excited to be back in the playoffs in his first year at Danville. Johnson said he wouldn’t pick his starting pitchers until Thursday night.

“I want to see how they’re pitching in practice,” Johnson said. “Once I get a feel for how they’re pitching, then I’ll make the decision on who will start.”

His said the key for a win is playing consistently through the whole game.

“We have to play well for the whole 21 outs,” Johnson said.
