A community worship service was held Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle. Jerome Ward, music director at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, led the Depot Days Homecoming Singing, with both congregational gospel and old-time religion music. Special music was by the Community Choir from area Hartselle and South Morgan church choirs, along with A.D. and Sherry Halbrooks and others, including Charles Howse’s Glory Road Quartet, the Ward Family, the Living Faith and Jaylynn and Trina Milligan.

Sept. 16, Athens United Methodist Church hosted the Northwest District United Methodist Women’s Mini School of Missions. Registration of area members was at 9 a.m., and two classes were offered. One of the classes was “Living As a Covenant Community,” and the other class was “Missionary Conferences of the U.M.C. in the United States.”

After the classes, lunch was served by the host church. Carolyn Besnyl, from Massey, attended for McKendree United Methodist Church and said she enjoyed the class on the Covenant. She is also teaching a Sunday School class at McKendree and will be using a book on “Covenants with God.”

Special get-well wishes go out this week for Charles Sandlin and also for Katie Sue Hardin.

Special happy birthday wishes go out this week for Daniel Linderman, who will celebrate his special day Oct. 4.

Matthew Asherbranner of Massey is vice president of the North Alabama Antique Tractors Association. The group met for potluck supper and business and door prizes Sept. 12. Their other officers are President Jerriel Patton, Secretary Mitzi Smallwood and Treasurer Gary Bell. Ronnie and Jenny Asherbranner, also of the Massey area, were among those who attended the event at the Eva Senior Citizen Center Sept. 12.

Some members will show their tractors at the Falkville Fall Festival and do a tractor show. Prizes will also be given. Those participants also competed in the Hartselle Depot Festival Sept. 16. The Association meets every second Tuesday from September through March.

Brother Sam Nisly was the preacher for the Leitchfield, Ky., Mennonite Church Revival, Sept. 4-10. Mrs. Arlene Nisly also attended the revival.

Wanita and Abigail Nisly went to Montezuma, Ga., recently for Tanya Yoder’s baptism.

Brother Wayne Nisly was the preacher for the morning worship at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church at Massey Sept. 10.

McKendree United Methodist Church welcomed guest speaker Patty Andrews from the Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church Sept. 3 for the morning worship service. Sept. 10, the guest speaker was Selena Sandlin Lindsey, also from the Forrest Chapel Church. Brother Mike and Tammy Vest are on vacation.

Dennis and Donna Pepre of Moulton are the proud parents of a baby boy, born Aug. 29. The baby’s name is DeWayne.

A group of volunteers from Fairview – The Grace Place and several other area churches went to Houston, Texas, to take supplies to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. They helped take down sheetrock in the flooded houses and take out ruined furniture. The group stayed in a neighborhood Methodist church, Sept. 1-4.

Family Fun Night at Fairview – The Grace Place will be held Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. Also Oct. 1, there will be a bridal shower for Cassie Thomson from 2-4 p.m. at the Fairview gym.

Massey’s community supper Sept. 15 included chili dogs, garden salad, chips, desserts and drinks. Afterward, the discussion groups met. The men and women meet in the Sunday School rooms.

Wednesday nights, after potluck supper, McKendree United Methodist Church study groups meet. The women meet in the Bridge Center and study Beth Moore’s “The Quest.” Lynn Hogan is their teacher. The men meet in the church fellowship hall and are studying the book of Exodus. Brother Mike Vest is their teacher.
