Brewer holds off huge Priceville comeback

The Brewer Patriots probably felt pretty good as they built a nine run lead over the Priceville Bulldogs, but the Bulldogs showed why you always play until the very end. Brewer took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, which was highlighted by a two run single by Jacob McMinemon that scored Baxley Collins and Blake Golden. Brewer added five more runs in the third to push the lead to 9-0.

However, then Priceville began to chip at the lead. Rhett Lemay added the final run in what was a three run inning by the Bulldogs to cut the lead to 9-3. Priceville went into the final inning trailing 9-5. Cole Byrd scored first on a bases loaded walk. Will Hughes scored on an error and Eli Freeman on a sacrifice ground-out to cut the deficit to 9-8. Priceville’s comeback fell short though when Jake Raymond was struck out looking. Dakota Bennett picked up the win after allowing no hits and no runs through the first two innings. Dalton Gilmore gave up seven hits and seven runs in four innings pitched. Blake Golden finished the game by allowing just one run with no hits.

Brewer 0, Priceville 6: Priceville jumped on Brewer and never looked back as they used a trio of two run innings to secure the win. Eli Freeman got the win on the mound for Priceville as he gave up only two hits and no runs with nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Brewer 7, Decatur Heritage 3: Brewer slammed the defending class 1A champions by outhitting them 13-3. Jonathan Holmes led the Patriots with three hits. Dakota Bennett finished with two RBIs. Eli Carnes got the win on the mound.

Brewer 3, Fairview 1: Dakota Bennett and Eli Carnes combined for a no hitter over the Fairview Aggies. Bennett gave up just one hit to go along with his 10 strikeouts in five innings pitched.
