CORINTH WEST METHODIST CHURCH TO HOLD SWAMP JOHN’S FEB. 18

Corinth West Methodist Church will host a “Swamp John’s” fundraiser supper on Sat., Feb. 18 from 4 till 7 p.m. Options will include chicken, shrimp, and fish or a combination plate. Dessert will be Little Debbie cakes. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the general fund. There will be to go boxes or you can eat at the church.

Bible study at Corinth West Methodist Church is held on Wed. nights at 7 p.m. Cranson Asherbranner leads the Bible study. The members are now studying the Book of Mark and everyone is welcome to attend. Brother Wayne Jetton is pastor and welcomes everyone to attend their services.

Jim and Karen Bryant Walker of DeSoto, Kansas, have been visiting family and friends in the Massey and Hartselle area, as well as Sheffield. They enjoyed a post Christmas meal and gifts with her sister, Kay Farrer at Summerford Rehab. From Falkville, they went on to Charleston, South Carolina, to see Jim’s former co-workers at the telephone company and tour scenic and historic places. In Port St. Lucie, Florida, they visited the Laymons, former residents of DeSoto, Kansas. They are now in Key West Florida. In February they will visit Jim’s sister and her husband, Jan and Rusty Forbes in Florida and other friends from DeSoto on the Gulf Coast near Naples. They will return to Morgan County in February.

The Adult Sunday School Class at McKendree United Methodist Church is enjoying their weekly Bible study from the Uniform series of International Bible Lessons and their teacher is Rhona Summerford. In the study of creation, Barbara Brown Taylor says that people can encounter God under shady oak trees, at the top of a mountain and the wilderness. He shows up in whirlwinds, starry skies, burning bushes and perfect strangers. Jesus tells us to pay attention to the lilies of the field, birds of the air and women kneading bread and workers living up for their paychecks. The Jan.22 lesson’s purpose was to celebrate God’s goodness as Creator and God of All. (Psalm-104:24)-Lord you have done so many things. You have done them so wisely. The earth is full of your creations.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday was celebrated by some staff and residents of Summerford Nursing Home at the annual breakfast at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. Also at Summerford’s the Reading Club studied about Martin Luther King and his legacy. On Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. residents met in the activity room for games and socializing. Bingo is a favorite of residents and they enjoyed Wed., Jan. 18, afternoon games with nice prizes. Some play with four cards and the most popular prizes are stuffed animals.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week for Katie Sue-Jan. 30 and Bill Hopkins-Jan. 30.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church’s Women’s Missionary Union met on Mon., Jan. 16, and Beverly Murphy presided for the meeting. The Unit discussed a Swamp John’s fundraiser for later and also the Alabama Children’s Home donation. The Home is in Decatur and sponsored by the Baptists. Bro. Wayne Penn invites everyone to their Bible study on Wed. nights at 6:30. The group is discussing the Book of Acts.

Celebrate Recovery at McKendree United Methodist Church hosted the community supper on Fri., Jan. 20. Lasagna, salads, fudge pie and other desserts were served at 5:30 p.m. Noah Battles was the praise director for the service. Bro. Mike Vest led the prayer and purpose session following the song portion of the meeting. Tammy Vest and Bro. Mike conduct the women’s and men’s discussion. Jerri and John Sanford and Hank and Marsha Summerford met with the youth and children.                                                                           Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week for Gloria Penn, Wilda Willingham, Bobby Andrews, Letha Hopkins, Reba Barnes, Paulette Wilhite and Tammy Hendrix.
