If any game could be labeled a trap for the Danville Lady Hawks, it would be their road game at R.A. Hubbard. After coming off a disappointing loss to Hartselle in the county tournament, the Lady Hawks reeled off three straight wins last week including a huge win over Brewer. With the area tournament next week, the Hawks could have easily overlooked R.A Hubbard, which would’ve been dangerous.

The two squads opened up with a lot of back and forth action. A basket from Are’Taysia Jones and a three-point play from Kee-Undria Bolden gave the Chiefs a 9-4 lead. A steal from Tara Tuck, which led to a Jolee Cole basket, and a three point shot from Kayla Compton tied the game at nine. Callie Ryan closed the quarter with six points to give the Hawks a 17-14 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter was as tight as the first. Five points by Cole gave Danville a 24-21 lead, but Hubbard took the lead back 27-26. Ryan gave Danville the lead 28-27 and Tuck tried to add another basket as she got the rebound and raced down the court with five seconds left, but her layup fell out as the buzzer sounded.

Alex Orr gave the Chiefs the lead 33-30 at the beginning of the third, but it would be the last time they held the lead. Cole knocked in a three point shot that started a 20-6 run as Danville took the lead at the end of the third.

Danville took care of business in the fourth and went on to win 72-63, which pushed their current winning streak to four games. Jolee Cole was Danville’s leading scorer in the game with 21 points while Callie Ryan was second with 18. Jordan Hinkle finished with 15 and Kayla Compton had 12.

After the game Danville head coach Paul Wilson didn’t shy away from his team’s performance. “We didn’t rebound the ball, we didn’t shoot well and we didn’t get to the free throw line.” Wilson said. “The only thing we did well was run the court and that was the difference in the end. But I told them if there is no such thing as a beautiful loss then there is no such thing as an ugly win.”
