Morgan County Commission honors Decatur Heritage

The Morgan County Commission met in a regular bi-monthly meeting Tues., June 28, on the fifth floor of the Morgan County Courthouse. Before the meeting began the commission honored the Decatur Heritage Baseball team for winning the State Championship in Class 1A. Commission Chairman Ray Long presented a plaque to the team and congratulated them on behalf of the commission.

The commission also approved the establishment of a private cemetery in Union Hill. The cemetery will be known as the Oldcare Family Cemetery. The county will not be responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery or maintenance of the said cemetery. A cemetery management committee was created to maintain and control access to the burial sites.

In other business the commission acted on:

Old Business:

•Adopted resolution for the acceptance of lowest bid from the lowest responsible bidder meeting specifications with only one bid received from Lynn Layton Chevrolet in the amount of $27,155.50 for (1) vehicle for the Commission Aging department: Eddie Preuitt Ford-No bid; Lynn Layton Ford-No bid; Lynn Layton Chevrolet $27,155.50.

New Business:

•Adopted resolution authorizing the elimination of the position of Business Personal Property Appraiser III (Reappraisal Department), Class 9973, grade 10 ($20.09 – $26.22) and the creation of Business Personal Property Appraiser II Class 9973, grade 7 ($16.37 – $21.36) and authorize Amanda Scott, Revenue Commissioner to fill the position. The grade III had to be eliminated in order to add the grade II position.

• Authorizing the appropriate Elected Official/Department Head to fill the following positions: full-time assessment clerk, grade 2, (10.17 – 13.27) license; Hartselle Satellite Office supervisor, grade 3, ($11.41 – $14.85) license; operator 1, grade 4, ($12.65 – $16.51) District 2

•Adopted resolution authorizing the refund of sales tax for the following, due to overpayment: Martin Brower Company LLC/DABB Inc., $1168.05

•Adopted a resolution authorizing the following certificates to subdivide properties: Martha and A.Q. Oldacre, Apple Grove Road, District 4

•Adopted a resolution approving an application from A.Q. Oldacre to establish a private cemetery to be known as Oldacre Family Cemetery on Apple Grove Road in the SW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 34, Township 6 South, Range 1 West in Morgan County District Four. Oldacre Family Cemetery property, graves, structures, roads and drives shall be operated and maintained by the Cemetery Management Committee. The Morgan County Commission cannot and will not provide any services or maintenance for the cemetery. According to Greg Bodley, county engineer all paperwork was in order and this has been approved by the Health Department and the Judge of Probate office.

•Approved disbursements for May 2016, totaling $5,816,099.69:

•Approved invoices totaling $10,560.86 for Morgan County

•Accepted the resignation of Melvin Duran III from the Products Mart Board and appointed Sammy Dean to replace him.

•Approved allowing District 3 to bid for a new lawnmower.
