Morgan County Commissioners were honored at the commission meeting on Tues., June 14. Bob Francis, project chairman for the recently completed Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP), presented a plaque to Commission Chairman Ray Long and thanked them for the support the commission gave to the project. Francis mentioned the project could not have been completed without the contributions from the county governing board.

Commission Chairman Long then thanked Francis for his hard work and dedication to the project. He also mentioned how Francis never gave up over the almost 10 year time to complete the project.

The commission also approved a resolution honoring the Brewer High School Fishing team for winning the Alabama High School 6A State Championship. The BHS team, along with their coach, was present for the meeting, was recognized and received the honor from Chairman Long.

The commission also adopted a resolution honoring the Decatur Heritage Baseball Team for winning the Alabama High School 1A State Championship. The team was not able to be present, but will be recognized at a future meeting.

The commission also agreed on the sum of $523,910 as the county’s participation in the Vaughn Bridge Rd. bridge replacement project. The commission also

adopted a resolution agreeing on the awarding of the bid, as well as the amount on their part to be paid. The project should begin either in August or September of this year. Miller & Miller, Inc. of Huntsville was awarded the bid as the lowest bidder and being in line with comparable work and within reason for the total bid for all items.

• Adopted a resolution to advise that the Morgan County Commission concurs in the award of the construction contract for ATRIP 52-03-10 Project, in the amount of $523,910.

• Adopted a resolution honoring Decatur Heritage baseball team for winning the Alabama High School 1A State Championship.

• Adopted a resolution honoring Brewer High School Fishing Team for winning the Alabama High School 6A State Championship.

•Authorizing the EMA Director and chairman to execute the Cooperative Letter of Agreement, State Homeland Security Grant, terms and conditions awarded to the Morgan County

EMA listed as follows: CA Number – 16EMA —— $2,084.00; CA Number – 5EMS —— $10,673.00; and  Award Number – 4FIL —— $8,070.45.

• Authorized the appropriate elected official/department head to fill the following positions:

Temporary employee, — Probate; (2) Substitute Senior Center Managers, ($8.34, no benefits) — COA; full-time laborer, grade 3, ($11.41 – $14.85). —District 2

• Authorized Debra Gardner, Director of MCATS to hire an appraiser for conduction of appraisal for Morgan County Transportation Building, 401 2nd Avenue, Decatur.

• Adopted a resolution for the acceptance of an application from A. Q. Oldacre to establish a private cemetery to be known as Oldacre Family Cemetery on Apple Grove Road located in District 4 and authorize the county engineer to request a sanitary review from the Alabama Department of Public Health.

• Adopted a resolution setting a maximum speed limit of 35 mph for Section Line Road, District 1.

• Authorized the chairman to execute Interlocal Agreement between the City of Decatur and Morgan County whereby the City of Decatur agrees to provide the County $6,000 from the 2016 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for the purchase of computers for Morgan County Deputies.

• Adopted a resolution declaring the following Engineering Department vehicles surplus, to be sold on GovDeals.com with proceeds to be returned to the appropriate department.: 2005 Colorado Vin # 1GCCS196258187576 and a 1999 F-150 Vin # 1FTRX17LXXNB14447

• Authorizing the chairman to appoint Anita Thomas to the Department of Human Resources Board, replacing Chief Joel Gilliam for a six year term, ending May 24, 2022.

• Authorized the chairman to execute the contract between Presstek, LLC. and Morgan County Data Processing for Customer Support, in the amount of $1440.

• Authorized the chairman to advertise for bid (1) police package vehicle for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

• Authorized the chairman, on behalf of the Morgan County Juvenile Probation, to amend Memorandum of Understanding, Section E changing the reimbursement fee from $0.575 per mile to $0.54 per mile and execute Section E between Paige Freeman and Morgan County Juvenile Probation Office for travel expenses while providing services to the Juvenile Probation Office.

• Authorized the chairman to enter into an agreement with Alabama Department of Environmental Management for providing the collection, management, and disposal of discarded tires, funded by the Scrap Tire Fund, reimbursing Morgan County Commission expenses associated with listed services.

• Authorized the chairman to execute Insolvents, errors and taxes in Litigation for 2015 and uncollected insolvents, errors and taxes in Litigation for previous years as prepared by Amanda G. Scott, Morgan County Revenue Commissioner.

• Authorized the chairman to execute the following contracts representing the promotion of Morgan County, which will be payable out of the Tourism, Recreation & Convention Fund as follows: Hartselle Quarterback Club, Inc. , $150.

• Review and approved invoices totaling $802,833.95 for Morgan County.
