The 24th annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp out Hunger Food Drive was held Sat., May 14. Their goal is to help stock local food banks by asking those they deliver mail to each day to share food items with those who may be going without.

Special bags are placed in mail receptacles reminding people to place their donations of non-perishable foods at their mailbox and the carrier will pick up the donations during the regular route on the scheduled date.

Both city and rural bring their donations back to the post office where they are shared with local food banks. In Hartselle, the donated food was split between The Caring Place, Carpenter’s Cabinet and Seeds of Love.

Local carrier Royce Moore said this would probably be his last food drive to participate in. As he unloaded the donations from his truck, he mentioned that he plans to retire after 41 years with the post office.

The local food banks were the recipients of more than 10,866 pounds of donated food items from caring people in the community
