Members of the Hartselle Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association could not have picked a better day to honor local law enforcement officers. The sun was shining brightly, a slight breeze was blowing and very few clouds were in the sky for this event. For the second year the group invited all area local officers as well as members of the community to come out have a hot dog, a Pepsi, popcorn and even cotton candy. The group also had a blow-up jump house for the kids, corn hole and even horseshoes for those who wanted to participate and have some fun.

Young and older alike showed up for the fun, food and fellowship last Sat., May 14, at E.A.R.T.H. Park. The event began at 11 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m. Members of the alumni association provided the food and Pepsi Cola donated the drinks for the event.

Members of the Hartselle Police Department and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Hartselle Fire and Rescue, and even the Alabama Wildlife and Fisheries came out for the event. Off duty and on duty officers dropped by for a hot dog and drink and fellowship time with members of the alumni group and other officers.

Many of the kids who came with parents enjoyed the games and especially the cotton candy. Many were also interested in looking inside the

police vehicles that were on display at the event. They also enjoyed corn hole and the inflatable as well.

The group holds this event to show their appreciation to the officers who put their lives on the line every day and fulfill the motto to “protect and serve.” The want to bring attention to the public about the fine job the officers do and thank them as well for their service.

The event is also held in conjunction with National Police Week, which is May 15 through May 21, 2016. May 15 is “Peace Officers Memorial Day” in memory of those who have lost their lives while serving. Morgan County held its Law Enforcement Memorial Service Tues., May 17.
