FHS boys track wins third straight state championship

Falkville High School boys won their third straight AHSAA state outdoor track and field championship Saturday at Cullman.

The Blue Devils won Class 1A championships in 2013 and 2014 at Selma under the direction of Coach Keith Wilemon. Falkville moved to 2A this year and had to fend off archrival Cold Springs to claim the Class 2A crown.

This was Wilemon’s son Jace’s first year as Falkville’s head coach, but he adapted quickly.
Falkville totaled 114.20 points, and Cold Springs finished second with 104.70.

Bram Miller took the top spot in the 2A boys high jump with a leap of 6-feet 6-inches and placed fourth in the boy’s triple jump with a distance of 40-feet 3-inches.

Blake Bradford won the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.

Ryan Sullivan took second in the boys pole vault at 11-feet 6-inches, and Clay Kyle took third with an even 11-feet. Sullivan also won second in the boys 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 40.97 seconds.

Drake Hamilton came in second in the boys 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:36.

Patrick Knowles placed sixth in the boys javelin with a distance of 149-feet 8-inches, and Tylor Roy placed fourth in the boys shot put with a distance of 41-feet 10-inches.

The Lady Blue Devils placed third as a team with 75.5 points.

Kari Watts took second in the girls 2A 8-meter run with a time of 2:25.48.

She placed second in the girls long jump and javelin, and she finished third in the girls high jump and triple jump. Eddy leapt to 15-feet 6-inches, threw 126-feet 6-inches in the javelin, cleared 5-feet in the high jump and leapt to 32-feet 1-inch in the triple jump.
