Inaugural “Scarecrow Trail” set for Oct. 18–31

Hartselle’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a “Scarecrow Trail” at Sparkman Park Oct. 18-31 to raise funds for the 2014 United Way fundraising campaign.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to design and enter a scarecrow in the contest to support United Way and the 31 non-profit agencies it supports.

The theme for this year’s trail is “Land of Make-Believe.” Scarecrows will be displayed along the walking trail at Sparkman Park and may portray any fictional character from books, movies, cartoons, folklore or fairy tails. The entry fee is $20 per scarecrow and is due by Oct. 15.  Each participating organization will receive a PVC form to support its scarecrow. All scarecrows should be in good taste.

Scarecrows will be judged on their quality and creativity. Prizes will be $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third.

Funds raised will help United Way support non-profit agencies throughout Morgan County that touch one out of every three residents across all ages and socio-economic levels. United Way’s goal is to train those less fortunate with the skills to succeed in life, provide the training and support needed to move them to financial independence and deliver health services and resources that support wellbeing for all.
