SCOTTSBORO – Dylan McQueen’s record-setting night led the way in a 33-14 Scottsborro win over the Brewer Patriots.

After a defensive stop by the Wildcats, the offense took to the air to fly their way down the field on their first offensive series on a five-play drive, capped off by the sophomore McQueen’s 66-yard touchdown after the throw from senior quarterback Justin Whitehead on a flanker screen.

Three minutes later the Wildcats were on the board again, as it was Whitehead to McQueen once again hooking up for 42 yards across the middle to tack on six more.

The Patriots were struggling to find an answer.

Weston Green was able to get something positive going in Brewer’s direction as he connected on his first of two field goals on the night with a 27-yarder late in the first half.

Nevertheless, McQueen finished his record-setting half off right with a 50-yard dash to the end zone via Whitehead to take a 19-3 lead into the half.

The second half was one to forget for the Patriots as missed opportunities and turnovers were the trend of the second half for the Patriots, as they couldn’t convert on a short field as well as get their playmakers going.

Dekarlos Billingsley led the attack for the Wildcats in the second half as he took to ground for 115 yards in the third and fourth quarter.

After Brewer’s Greg Johnson ran for a touchdown, the Wildcats put the nail on the coffin with a 16-play drive that put the game out of reach with less than five minutes to go. The Wildcats converted four third downs that appeared that the Patriots had them wrapped up but Billingsley was able to escape and gain enough to move the chains.

Coach Dan Styles thought the defense played well despite three plays.

“We said going in execution was key,” Styles said. “They had as good of receivers as anybody and they beat us on three deep passes. Good football teams can’t make those mistakes like the turnovers that we made.”

Styles said confidence and getting his playmakers to hang on to the football would be key in moving forward this season as well.
