What started as a challenge to School Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson has ended in $1,380 being donated to ALS Association to help find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Hartselle High School’s Les Amies Sorority dared Wilson to take the ALS ice bucket challenge at last Friday’s Hartselle vs. Pinson Valley game.

Wilson then challenged others to join him in the challenge, including Mayor Don Hall, Hartselle Police Chief Ron Puckett, Hartselle Board of Education members, HHS principal Jeff Hyche, assistant principal Pat Smith, boys basketball coach Faron Key and director of bands Randall Key.

Lynn Warren, sponsor for Les Amies Sorority, said the event was a success.

“The girls kept seeing the ALS challenge pop up on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media,” Warren said. “Several of them were challenged individually to do the challenge. So they thought this would be a great thing to get involved with and so they chose to do this as their fall charity fundraiser.”

In addition to donations made by those who participated in the challenge, sorority members passed donation buckets down the rows of J.P. Cain Stadium throughout the game.
