Priceville Town Council approved $162,000 to close out a SRF loan the town secured in 1997 to construct the first phase of its sewer system at a regular meeting Monday night.

“This is good news for Priceville,” said Mayor Melvin Duran. “Lots of people didn’t believe we could do this when we started the sewer system.” I couldn’t see light at the end of the tunnel myself at the beginning but I had hope and a vision.”

“This money will turn us loose on other needed projects next budget year,” Duran pointed out. “Plus, the sewer board is working toward becoming self-sufficient.”

A public hearing on a request from Thomas H. and Bonnie Fredricks for a 160 special events retail (on premises) alcohol license was tabled until the first regular meeting in August. The Fredricks own and operate Fredricks Inc. and Fredricks Outdoors at 1312 Bethel Road South.

The council acted on other matters as follows:

• Approved $3,834 for yearly membership in the Morgan County Economic Development Association.

• Approved $1,200 for the continued operation of the transportation planning process conducted by the Metropolitan Planning Organization in fiscal 2015.

• Increased the town’s share of the cost for employee family insurance coverage from 25 to 50 percent.

• Approved $6,500 to apply a protective coating and dues re-stripe the parking lot at the municipal building.

• Approved $1,339.82 for annual membership dues to the Alabama League of Municipalities.

• Approved $850 to Citi Tech for software virus protection with license and installation

• Approved a $1 per hour merit pay increase for Town Clerk Constance Childers after completion of a one-year probationary period.

• Approved $4,076.85 for Fleet Safety Equipment Inc. for the installation of equipment on the town’s new Tahoe police patrol vehicle.

• Approved $5,055 for Watch Guard for a new camera for the town’s black Charger police patrol vehicle.
