The name of Wanda Roberts, Title I reading teacher at Lacey’s Spring Junior High School until her death Feb. 7, 2014, was added to the name of the school library at a dedication ceremony May 27.

The name change was approved by vote of the Morgan County School Board earlier this year.

Roberts served as reading teacher at Lacey’s Spring School for 13 years. Previously, she was a Head Start, kindergarten and second grade teacher at Cotaco, with about 30 years experience in education.

“We are very privileged and honored,” said her daughter, Randi Roberts Preston. “Our mother had a great love for reading and having her name associated with the library is a fitting memorial.”

An engraved plaque bearing the name Roberts-Hough Library was presented to Preston and her brother, Mick Roberts. School principal Lane Alexander made the presentation.

The plaque will be displayed in a prominent place in the library.

“She had a heart for children, said Della Carmen, a fellow teacher at Lacey’s Spring. “She wanted every child to learn how to read. On Friday as the children were leaving, she would remind them to take a book home and read it over the weekend.

“Kindness oozed out of her,” she added. “She had a positive outlook on life no matter what went wrong.”

A reception following the dedication with 100 faculty members, central office personnel and friends in attendance.  They included Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. and board member Jeff McLemore.

Alexander said the library was named in memory of Beulah Hough when it was located in a different building on campus.
