Morgan County School Board approved personnel from within the system to fill four principal positions at its regular meeting on Thursday night.

Davis Estes was approved as principal at Eva School. He follows in the footsteps of Patrick Patterson, who was earlier promoted and transferred to the Central Office as director of student assessment and accountability.

Becky Burt was picked to assume the principal’s position at West Morgan Elementary School after serving in an interim capacity for several months. She follows Earl Leonard who retired last February.

Mary Chambers was approved as principal at West Morgan Middle School. She is replacing Bruce Sparkman who retired recently.

Mark Edwards was promoted to principal at Lacey’s Spring School. He is replacing Lane Alexander who resigned.

All of the appointments will be effective July 1, 2014.

Superintendent Bill Hopkins said all four appointees are highly qualified and rose to the top from among more than 50 candidates.

Out-of-state field trip requests were approved as follows: West Morgan High School to allow 15 boy’s varsity basketball players to travel to of Oxford, Miss. to participate in a team camp June 18-20; Danville High School to allow 20 boy’s basketball players to travel to Oxford, Miss. to participate in a team camp June 18-19; and Priceville High School to allow two FCCLA students to travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete at the National FCCLA competition July 5-12.

The board acted on other matters as follows:

•Approved a low bid of $115,225 plus $23,520 for alternate #1 from Rick Hall Construction for the replacement of windows in buildings at Union Hill School.

•Approved amended board policies as follows: (IHF) Graduation Requirements, (BCA) Code of Conduct, (BCA 2.4) Board Meetings, (BCB) Procedures, (BCBE) Distribution, (BCBF) Rules of Order and (BCBI) Public Participation

•Approved a request to conduct the Brewer girl’s Basketball Camp for grades 2-9 at Brewer High School June 9-13

•Approved the purchase of a 19’ JLG electric scissor lift from United Rentals for $5,000.

•Approved the 2014 Morgan County School Extended School Year Program to be beld at Sparkman School

•Approved a contract for services with Lynn Rutledge to provide transportation for an eligible student to and from school each day the student attends starting April 14, 2014.

•Approved a resolution naming the media center at Lacey’s Spring School The Hough – Roberts Media Center in memory of Ms. Beula Hough and Ms. Wanda Roberts.

•Approved a lease agreement with Office Equipment Co. for two copiers to be placed at Priceville Elementary School

•Approved a contract for services with Teresa Boyer to provide nursing services for the Robotics program’s National competition in St. Louis, Mo. April 23-26

•Approved a request from Priceville High School to use the gyms at PHS and PES for the 7th annual Morgan County Girl’s Basketball Camp June 24-27.

• Approved the purchase of a 2014 Doosan G25 forklift from United Rentals for $22,935

Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. recommended and the board approved the following personnel items:

•Accepted the resignation of LTC Randy Pestona as JROTC instructor at Brewer High School, effective June 30.

•Approved revising the effective hire date of Randall McCutcheon as network administrator, MCS, from April 11 to April 21.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Dewain Clemons, countywide bus driver, effective at the completion of the current school year

•Accepted the resignation of Patsy S. Kilgore, physical education teacher at Priceville Elementary School, effective June 12.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Angela Wynn, a teacher at Priceville Elementary School, effective June 1.

•Approved a catastrophic leave of absence request from Robin Ferrell, custodian at Sparkman School.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Barbara L. Knight, a teacher at Falkville Elementary School, effective June 1.

•Accepted the resignation of Aaron Rodgers, a custodian at Brewer High School, effective April 30.

•Accepted the resignation of Amber Robinson, a teacher at Union Hill School, effective at the end of the current school year

•Accepted the resignation of Scott Curd, a teacher/coach at Danville High School, effective at the end of the current school year.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Regina Matthews, a teacher at Eva School, effective June 1.

•Approved a catastrophic leave of absence request from Carolyn McLaughlin, a teacher at West Morgan High School, effective April 21 through May 22.
