Hartselle High School senior Taylor Lybarger signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of West Alabama on Monday.

The event was held on the second floor level of the main gym. Her coaches, teammates, family members with other senior athletes were present to extend congratulations and best wishes.

“I’m excited and pleased to have the opportunity to play at the college level,” Lybarger said.” When I visited the campus I was looking at three different schools. The head coach impressed me a lot. She is very competitive. The college is also strong academically.

“I’m interested in pursuing a career in medicine and I felt the school is a good fit for me,” she added.

Lybarger said she would be moving from an outside hitter position to a defensive position in college.

Lybarger is a four-year varsity player for the Lady Tigers. She earned all-state honors in 2012, was a member of the North All-Star Volleyball Team in 2013, a member of the Alabama High School Volleyball Coaches Association All-State team and a member of all-county and all-“Taylor is very competitive and possesses good leadership skills,” said her coach and mom, Tanya Lybarger. “She and the other three seniors on our team accomplished a lot and contributed much to our program during their careers. We will miss them, but we wish the best in their college careers.”
