An elderly man was killed and his wife was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Alabama 36 West in Hartselle Friday morning.

The mishap occurred at 9:20 a.m. between Ironman Road and the Morgan County Extension office.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn identified the man as Alvah M. Wayand, 82, of County Road 200 in Danville. Chunn said the victim died of blunt force cervical and chest trauma.

Waneta Wayand, 84, of Danville,  was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.

Lt. Justin Barley, public information officer for the Hartselle Police Department, said in an email that other driver, Jacob Owens, 26, of Danville, and his passenger, Riley Owens, 27, of Danville, were treated on the scene but were not transported to the hospital.

The Wayands were traveling westbound in a Mercury Marquis. The Owens were traveling eastbound in a Mitsubishi Galant.

“The cause and details of the accident are still under investigation,” Barley said.
