Holt running for coroner’s office

Earl Holt of Decatur is opposing incumbent Jeff Chunn for Morgan County coroner, subject to the Primary Election on June 3.

A Republican, Holt is pastor of Serenity Baptist Church and a part-time employee of Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home. Prior to retirement, he worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Decatur for 42 years, serving as a department manager.

“I have always wanted to serve the public in an elective office,” Holt said.

“I believe my 44-year ministerial background qualifies me for the office. Ministering to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of families during difficult times is something I’m accustomed to doing.”

Holt, 68, conducted an unsuccessful campaign for coroner 16 years ago.

He is a native of Priceville and a former member of Hartselle Civitan Club, Morgan County Sheriff’s Reserves and a member and president of Decatur High Band Boosters.

Holt is a graduate of Priceville High School and Samford University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in religion.

He and his wife Eleanor (Blankenship), a federal government employee, have a married daughter, Bashan Duran of Pelham.
