Hartselle’s David Dunford finished second in the in the Class 5A, 132-pound weight class on Saturday.

Dunford lost a tough 4-0 match to Arab’s John-David Henderson in the state championship match Saturday at the AHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center. Henderson finished the season with a 63-0 record, his second season to finish undefeated.

Henderson scored just one takedown and a reversal, as Dunford kept the match close. Dunford (46-14) defeated Fort Payne’s Ian Hilyer and Moody’s Jared Monday on Friday.

Michael Prince (48-12) finished fourth the 145-pound weight class. He lost to Springville’s Alex Jackson and then defeated Athens’ Hunter Lindsay. Prince defeated Hayden’s Noah Howse (42-15) in the consolation semis but lost 9-1 in the consolation finals.

Culver Martin (45-23) and Logan Smith (51-8) were one match short of medaling at state.

Martin lost 12-0 to Scottsboro’s Kolton Clark (48-24) in 113-pound consolation semifinals Saturday morning. He lost to Hayden’s Chase Phillips but pinned Homewood’s Ethan Harris.

Smith was eliminated 6-0 by McAdory’s Travis Norris (33-14) Saturday morning. Smith lost to Hayden’s Hunter Flowers (52-6) and then defeated Greyson Beavers of Muscle Shoals on Friday.

Arab won away from the competition to take the state champioship while Southside-Gadsden took the runner-up trophy. Hartselle finished 12th overall with only taking four wrestlers to state.
