A meeting between local and state elected officials and representatives of Decatur Morgan Hospital on Wednesday raised hope that the closed Hartselle Medical Center facilities at North Sparkman and Pine streets can be reactivated as a venue for needed medical services and/or other uses.

Assembled at the hospital building’s east entrance, Speaker of the Alabama House Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), District 9 State Rep. Ed Henry (R-Hartselle), Mayor Don Hall, and Decatur Morgan Hospital officers President Nat Richardson and Community Relations Coordinator Kathy Goodwin discussed the hospital’s closing, its current condition and shared some ideas about how its facilities might be used in the future.

Richardson said the owner, Huntsville Hospital, is spending about $45,000 a month to secure and maintain the building.

“We’re looking for opportunities to utilize the facility for the benefit of the community in as many ways as possible,” Richardson stated. “We want to work with local and state governments to make that happen.”
