Rogers pulls away from Danville in region win

Junior quarterback Caleb Hill threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns but it was not enough as Danville fell 42-28 to Rogers last Friday night at Smith-Owens Stadium in Danville.
Rogers scored four times in the second half to turn a 14-14 tie into a 42-21 lead.
With the loss, Danville falls to 3-6 for the season while Rogers improves to 8-1. The Hawks will travel to Falkville tomorrow night to close out the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, each team scored twice to go to the locker room tied at 14.
Rogers scored on runs of five and 51 yards by Austin Kerr and Ryan Murray respectively while Danville answered with two Hill touchdown passes.
Hill’s first touchdown strike, a 65-yarder to Clint McAbee, cut the Rogers lead to 7-6.
He added a 15-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Russell.
After the touchdown by Russell, Hill found Jessie Posey open in the right corner of the end zone for the two-point conversion.
Rogers broke the game open in the third quarter behind a punishing ground game.
The Pirates added three scores on runs of 23, five and 33 yards.
Hill would get his final touchdown pass of the evening midway through the third quarter when he found Trey Jones open for a 24-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-18 play.
Kevin Jacko added the PAT to tie the game at 21. Hill was 3-for-4 for 48 yards on the game-tying drive.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the final period as Rogers scored on a 9-yard run while the Hawks had the game’s final touchdown on a 20-yard run by McAbee. He who finished the night with eight catches for 141 yards.
McAbee also had 35 yards rushing on three carries.
