Sheriff’s Deputies solve BHS break-in
A Brewer High School student faces three counts of burglary in connection with recent break-ins at three concessions stands, one at Brewer’s football stadium and two at Huskey Park.
Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jacob Treakle, 18, of Somerville on Thur., Aug. 22, and charged him with three counts of burglary III. He was taken to the Morgan County jail and held on a $7,500 bond, according to information released by Sheriff Ana Franklin.
Brewer High Principal Jeremy Childers said a break-in and burglary at the football stadium’s concession stand was reported to sheriff’s deputies Thursday morning after vendors discovered a forced entry and missing stock.
He said a brick was used to break out a window and candy and drinks valued at approximately $500 and cash totaling about $100 was taken.
“The Athletic Booster Club has just begun putting in new stock,” Childers said. “We were lucky. Had the break-in occurred a couple of days later the loss would’ve been much greater.”
A Sheriff’s Office press release indicated that Childers received a call from a student after school hours on Thursday, advising him that someone was at a nearby service station with lots of candy. School Resource Officer Newman responded and made contact with Treakle. He detained the subject and called Sgt. Chad Smith, of the Criminal Investigation Division. While on the scene, Smith learned that two concessions stands at Huskey Park had also been burglarized. Candy and drinks were reported missing from there as well.
