HPD hosting gun safety class

The Hartselle Police Department and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association will host a gun safety class June 1 at 8 a.m. at the Hartselle Police Department Training Room to citizens of Hartselle and the surrounding area.

The four-hour class will be divided into three hours of classroom instruction and one hour of range instruction. Attendees must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license or state issued ID card, prepay and submit all registration forms before June 1 and pass a criminal background check.

Those who wish to attend should bring their own revolver or semiautomatic handgun (no single action handguns or long guns permitted), 50 rounds of ammunition, a handgun cleaning kit, sunglasses or safety glasses and a hat of some kind. All firearms should be brought to the firing range unloaded. The dress code includes a comfortable shirt, jeans or pants and tennis shoes or boots (no flip flops or sandals).

Sgt. Randy Adams will be instructing the class. He is a certified firearms instructor and trainer as well as an expert marksman of the Hartselle Police Department.

Registration costs $25 per person and benefits the Hartselle Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Contact Sgt. Adams at 256-773-6534 or radams@hartselle.org for more information.
