Funeral for Gene Coleman Blevins, 84, of Somerville, was Wed., May 1, at noon at Somerville United Methodist Church with Bro. Al Dean and Bro. John Walker officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in the Historical Somerville Cemetery.

Mr. Blevins died Sun., April 28, 2013, in the loving presence of his family. He was born April 15, 1929, in Somerville to Silas Henry Blevins and Mary Betsy Ruth Moore Blevins. He was married to his wife, Faye Blevins, on April 4, 1953, until her passing, and was a member of Somerville United Methodist Church. He joined the U.S. Army on March 29, 1951, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a supply transportation specialist. He worked for Morgan Sheet Metals and then worked for 30 years at Wolverine Tube until his retirement. He was a “master” of small engine

repair and loved fishing on the Tennessee River. He raised beagles and loved rabbit, deer and dove hunting. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and Atlanta Braves fan. He loved his family and his beloved dog, Fuzzball. He was a past chief and founding member of the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Fay Jones Blevins; his parents; a daughter, Janice Blevins Morgan; a sister, Dorothy Mae Walker; three infant grandchildren, Jennifer, Dianne and Dennis Morgan; and two sons-in-law, Gary Writesel and Frankie Morgan.

He is survived by a son, Keith Blevins and wife Angie of Somerville; two daughters, Wanda Blevins Sterling and husband Robin of Owens Crossroads and Deborah Blevins Writesel of Lacey’s Spring; a sister,

Oddlee Hamilton of Decatur; four grandchildren, Wayne Wrtiesel,

Kaitlin Blevins, Cory Wilhite and Riley Wilhite; two great-grandchildren; Makenzie Writesel and Aden Wilhite.

Pallbearers were Ray Watts, Tim Walker, Alvin Morgan, Cory Wilhite, Riley Wilhite and Wayne Writesel.

Honorary pallbearers were James Roy Fairbanks, Bobby Kent, Valter Wade, Robert Maples, Doyle Houser, Gary Landers, John Wayne Mooneyham Jack Mooneyham Joe Mooney-ham and Troy Franks.
