Randall Shedd new house member

The vacant District 11 Alabama House of Representatives seat, which represents portions of Morgan, Cullman and Blount counties, was filled on Thursday with the swearing in of Randall Shedd, R-Fairview.

The oath of office was administered by Republican House Speaker Mike Hubbard of Auburn at the beginning of a legislative session.

The process of filling the vacancy ended on Wed., April 10, when the Democratic Party failed to certify a candidate for a General Election, which was scheduled on May 7.

Shedd, 60, won claimed the GOP nomination by defeating Danny Alldredge in a special runoff election on March 26.

Rep. Shedd, director of the Commission on Aging for Cullman County, follows in the footsteps of Jeremy Oden, R-Eva, who resigned last December to accept an appointment to the Alabama Public Service Commission.
